Ahead of you lies time itself, running to the horizon — the year 2100. The ground is not flat: it is a riskscape of attractor traps, deserts and chasms, anchored in the Earth4All, SSP and GLOBIO scenarios. At every fork a fan of possible futures opens; choose one and it becomes your journey, carrying you to the next fork. Each choice bends the road — toward a Nature-Positive Beacon, or down into the traps. Decide well, and reach the harbour.

Compass — a riskscape of possible futures

Compass renders time as space. Forward is the future; lateral is the space of civilisational choice; the height of the ground is its distance from the safe and just operating space. At every fork, a fan of possible futures opens — a procedural delta of where the landscape could carry you. Commit to one and that pathway becomes your journey, drawing the vessel to the next fork. Each choice bends the road and shifts what comes next: a transformative turn keeps you in the meandering corridor toward the Beacon — a Nature-Positive world within planetary boundaries — while delay lets the attractor traps, deserts and chasms capture you. Different decisions reach genuinely different horizons.

The typology of scapes

Beacon — the destination at the horizon: a Safe & Just Earth.
Attractor — a regime that traps wanderers (fossil lock-in; fortress world).
Repulsor — instability that scatters a steady course (polarisation, disinformation).
River — a fast current that carries and centres you (the Giant Leap).
Conductor — a moving light-rail you can catch for a burst of speed (a breakthrough wave).
Desert — efforts so costly they drain your pace (the decisive decade).
Oasis — a refuge where nature rebounds (Half Earth / 30×30).
Chasm — existential risk you do not return from (Hothouse Earth; overshoot & collapse).
Quicksand — a slow track that mires progress (muddling through).
Stressor — turbulence that buffets you (climate shocks, pandemics).
Switch — a critical threshold / tipping line (1.5 °C) that hardens the terrain ahead.
Cairn — stepping-stone goals, lit as you reach them (the five turnarounds).
Detour — a scenic false path that costs years (offsets & easy fixes).
Resistor — inertia, a headwind that slows the journey (incumbent interests).
Connector — synergies that calm the turbulence and link the milestones (cooperation).
